About Paul

I grew up on the shores of Botany Bay in Sydney, Australia and was raised by a kind and generous mom. My friends and I were mad about Star Wars and we would play together in the front garden of our small house, staging make-believe battles against the Empire. When I wasn’t caught up in space, I’d spend time with my younger brother and two sisters pretending the four of us could enter Narnia through our mom’s wardrobe. Today, nothing has changed. I’m still a big kid at heart… and I always will be.

I’ve always loved adventure stories. My favorite being those which explain the origin of the hero. That’s why I wrote this book. When I discovered Santa’s amazing true back story … yep, Santa is real… then I just couldn’t wait to share it with you!

I have a Bachelor of Business degree and worked in the corporate world. I’ve entertained large crowds as a professional sportsperson. Now as a Pastor, public speaker and author I like bringing enjoyment to others whilst igniting character traits like kindness, generosity and bravery to help bring to life the hero in all of us!

I had a rough childhood, so I’m really passionate about letting children everywhere know how special they are. I like to inspire them to believe that they too can do something great with their life, just like…

After more than 35 years working with children and teachers (NSW Department of Education) it’s certainly been a change of pace helping this talented and funny man write a children’s book. I really can’t wait to see it on the shelves so I can read stories of kindness and generosity to my grandsons. Santa Claus is the perfect example…

The Story

I’ve always believed in the Spirit of Christmas.

When I was about 12 years old my family and I had an amazing surprise… but first let me start from the top.

I am the eldest of four siblings; a brother and two sisters. We were raised by a loving single mother and growing up mom worked 3 jobs to support our family. Needless to say, money was tight and this was particularly felt at Christmas time. I remember this one Christmas where we were so short of funds our presents were all donated to us from the Salvation Army store.

I’ll never forget that Christmas eve. We had just opened our donated Christmas gifts. One was a board game that had scribbled on it the names of the children who previous owned it. We tried to be grateful and excited opening our gifts but as you can imagine as young children we couldn’t help feel disappointed.

Particularly my youngest sister Angie who was 6 years old. In those days every child her age was being surprised with a Cabbage Patch Doll under their tree. Doesn’t sound like much but it was a really big deal in those days. It was very expensive to buy and Mom was really disappointed that there was no way she could afford it.

Like something out of a dream, suddenly there was a knock on our front door. We opened it to find it was a Cab driver inquiring “Does Angela Stevens live here?” “Yes.” was the reply from all of us as we were quite taken back with this strange visitor on Christmas eve. “I’ve been asked to deliver this to her,” he said, and handed us a parcel tied with red ribbon. Then he got back in his cab and drove off.

Upon opening the gift-wrapped box my sister found, of all things, a Cabbage Patch Doll inside. We couldn’t believe it!

From Mom’s recollection other than the good Lord above, she hadn’t shared Angie’s wish for a Christmas gift with anyone outside our family. So we all wondered who it was from. Mom immediately got on the phone to call about half a dozen friends and family to thank them but each time she received the same honest response “It wasn’t us!”

To this day, over 30 years later, we still have no idea who this gift came from… or do we?
